The Senate approves the Telework as a Modality in the Dominican Republic
The Senate of the Dominican Republic has taken an important step by approving in second reading the Bill that amends Law 16-92 and approves the Labor Code to include Telework as a Work Modality in the country. This initiative, presented by senators Santiago José Zorrilla and Aris Yván Lorenzo, seeks to promote the inclusion of the productive sectors in the digital economy and the use of technological communication tools.
Telework refers to the work modality in which the activities are carried out outside the premises of the company, making use of tools linked to information technologies. The purpose of this law is to boost job creation, increase the protection of workers’ rights and promote the productivity and competitiveness of companies.
The approval of this law is a significant advance for the Dominican Republic, as it allows to adapt to the new ways of working driven by digitalization. Telework provides flexibility for both employers and workers, while contributing to the inclusion of productive sectors in the digital economy.
In addition, other bills were approved in the same session, such as the creation of the Official State Bulletin for the Publication of Amended Laws, the declaration of the January 19 Cavalcade of the city of Monte Plata as Intangible Cultural Heritage, the designation of streets in honor of outstanding figures, the declaration of the province of Santiago Rodríguez as an Ecotourism province and the regulation of the public trust.
These legislative decisions reflect the commitment of the Senate of the Dominican Republic to promote the development and modernization of the country, guaranteeing the protection of workers’ rights and promoting the inclusion of the productive sectors in the digital economy.
